  • The paperAsk for matte paper, 200 gsm or heavier. On dark designs, matte avoids reflections.
  • The printingAt a print shop or an online printer, upload the file as it is: it is already 300 dpi at the size you chose.
  • The frameChoose a frame the same size as the file. If you want a mat around it, get the frame one size up.

What is a custom star map?

It is a print showing the night sky exactly as it looked from one place on a given date and time. It is also called a personalised star map, night sky print, star chart or constellation map, and it is a popular anniversary, wedding and new baby gift.

Is the map real?

Yes. Positions are computed from a star catalogue for the date, time and coordinates you choose. It is not a generic decorative image.

What if I don’t know the exact time?

Use 10 pm. The sky turns only a little in an hour, so the map will look very similar.

Will anything be shipped to me?

No. It is a digital file you download straight away. You decide where and at what size to print it.

How does payment work?

You pay by card through a secure checkout. When you finish, the download button brings you back to this page with your map ready, without the watermark. You also get an email with the same button.

Can I fix a mistake after paying?

Yes. Before you download we ask you to check the text. If you spot a mistake afterwards, write to stelarmapstudio@gmail.com and we will send you the corrected file.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes. If the file fails or you can’t download it, write to stelarmapstudio@gmail.com and we will send it to you. Because it is a made-to-order digital file, it can’t be returned for a change of mind once downloaded, which is why you can design it and see the full preview before you pay.

What if my city isn’t in the search?

Paste the coordinates just as Google Maps gives them and the map is computed the same way.

How accurate is the map?

Stars are placed with an error of less than one degree, which on a 30 cm print is about one millimeter. The map shows stars, constellations and the Milky Way. It does not draw planets, so a very bright point you remember, such as Venus or Jupiter, may not appear. It is a decorative print, not a scientific instrument.

Can I make a star map for free?
