Digital or printed: which suits you
Some shops ship the poster already printed. Here we sell the file only. These are the differences.
| Digital file | Printed and shipped poster | |
|---|---|---|
| When you have it | Today, as soon as you pay | In several days, depending on shipping |
| What you pay for | The file. You choose the printing | The poster and, usually, shipping |
| Paper, size and frame | Your choice | Whatever the shop offers |
| What you have to do | Print it: at home, at a copy shop or with an online printer | Nothing: it arrives printed |
| Last-minute gift | You make it in time | Depends on the delivery time |
How to print and frame your star map
- The paperAsk for matte paper, 200 gsm or heavier. On dark designs, matte avoids reflections.
- The printingAt a print shop or an online printer, upload the file as it is: it is already 300 dpi at the size you chose.
- The frameChoose a frame the same size as the file. If you want a mat around it, get the frame one size up.
The file does not include a frame. Choose one in the same size as your print: 8 × 10, 11 × 14, 16 × 20 or 18 × 24 in.

Frequently asked questions about the digital star map
What is a star map digital download?
It is a custom star map that you receive as a file instead of a printed poster. You download it straight away and print it yourself, at home or at a print shop.
What format is the download?
PNG and PDF, at 300 dpi and at the exact size you choose. The PNG works for almost everything; the PDF is what copy shops usually ask for.
Where can I print it?
At a copy shop, a photo store or an online printer, or at home if your printer takes the size. Ask for matte paper of 200 gsm or more.
Can I design it for free?
Yes. The editor is free and you can try every design. The preview carries a watermark; you pay only to download the high-resolution file.
How long does it take to arrive?
No time at all: there is no shipping. The download button appears as soon as you pay, and you also get it by email.
Which size should I choose?
The size of the frame you plan to use. If you don’t have one yet, 8 × 10, 11 × 14, 16 × 20 and 18 × 24 in are easy to find in the US, and A4, A3, 30 × 40 and 50 × 70 cm in Europe. The same file also prints smaller at the same proportions.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes, for 14 days. If the file has a technical fault or you can’t download it, write to stelarmapstudio@gmail.com within 14 days of your purchase and we will fix it or refund you. Because it is a made-to-order digital file, it can’t be returned for a change of mind once downloaded, which is why you can design it and see the full preview before you pay.
Do you ship a printed poster?
No. We sell the digital file only. That way you have it today and you choose the paper, the size and the frame.
